Of fats and more fats
Slimming centres, slimming pills, reality slimming programmes... Why is our society so obsessed with slimming?
Instead of ads promoting a healthy lifestyle, viewers nowadays are treated to an overdose of slimming centre/slimming pills ads... With a population of 4 million, we've perhaps developed the ability to extract the fats out of 40 million people... And i'm seriously not kidding... Given the number of such slimming centres/slimming pills ard, i dun think i'm exaggerating at all...
Slimming pills are flying off the shelves at such ridiculous prices and at an even more ridiculous rate... So much so that companies producing those pills have the ability to IPO within a couple of months... Also, any celebrity seen with more than an inch of fat will be presented with a slimming endorsement pronto, sometimes on a golden platter... Well, as the saying goes, u'll noe u're a true celebrity when u get a slimming endorsement deal... Even stick thin celebrities get slimming endorsements (!!!!!!!)
As if slimming ads aren't enough... Now we have a local reality programme which placed a few rolly polly females in slimming bootcamp in the search for a spokesperson for a slimming company... Another reality programme dishes out sob stories of rolly polly contestants week after week to convince the public that the only way out of their rolly polly predicament (leading to insecurity and depression) is a slimming treatment... doh
I feel that these slimming ads/programmes are instilling a sense of inferiority in our society... We're being brainwashed time and again that confidence and opportunity = a slim waistline and that this should be achieved through exorbitant slimming treatments... Whatever happened to being confident of who u r and leading a healthy lifestyle? I guess economic gain overrides that fundamental rule of thumb in life... Now, we are caught in a whirlpool created by forces of slimming which is inevitably fueled by our weak resistance to desire...
I'm simply disgusted.
