A Melting Pot of Sorts

It's always nice when someone sets up a snack stall in the office. Especially when it doesn't give him any significant financial gain. It is, in the words of the man who set up the stall, 'for the convenience of everyone'.

And so I, like every other food greedy employee in the office, get my 3 for $1 worth of food from the stall every now and then. At first it was just an 'ok I'm hungry... I'm here to get something to eat' thingy. Then I realised that the food was getting consumed and replaced faster and faster. So people were really buying into this.

Recently, I began to notice the repercussions of having such a stall. I started to meet people at the stall and I observed a side of them which I will never see. 1 person I met was the normally serious no nonsense safety personel the company hired. I was just going about choosing my food when she popped in and immediately started rummaging through 1 of the boxes. I could hardly believe my ears when she said 'I had a packet of those peanut butter flavoured ones and they were so good!!' *more rummaging* 'THERE!!!' *gives a greedy look, a smile and walks out*

Today I met 1 of the managers at the stall, buying the exact same type of peanut butter flavoured biscuits for his little daughter. It's amazing what kind of communications and incidental bonding such a stall created. It might not have been about work but it made me feel like I knew a little bit more about these people on a different level.

It's queer but it's times like this that I know I'm not alone in this world.
