A Ride into the Sunset

2.5 months ago, a group of 7 friends were riding in a minivan as the sun was setting in Death Valley.

'Look the sun is setting on the left', the driver said. I was the front seat passenger. Sheryl Crow's 'Always on your side' was playing. Everyone else was silent. I looked left at the beautiful sunset and then around at the amazing colours it was playing on the bare rocks and sandy landscape. That was one of my most peaceful encounters in my life.

As Sheryl Crow sang

'Well they say that love is in the air, never is it clear
How to pull it close and make it stay
Butterflies are free to fly, why do they fly away,
Leavin' me to carry on and wonder why
Was it you that kept me wandering through this life
When you know that I was always on your side?'

a certain someone came to mind and all melancholic hell broke loose.

Now I'm sitting on a couch at 1.30am typing this blog post in the comfort of the living room. There's no sunset but with 'Always on my side' playing again, that scene in Death Valley is repeating itself again and again in my mind. So is the thought of that someone.

I guess melancholy will always accompany sunsets.
You too will always accompany how I remembered the day I rode into the sunset at Death Valley.
